My Full Biography
I have been viewing the world through the eyes of an author from a very young age. I was born with Cerebral Palsy and I am in a wheelchair. These physical limitations would allow me to watch people and think about how I would experience the same things if I were them instead of actually participating. This meant that sometimes when kids my age were out playing in the dirt or riding bikes, I was inside sitting behind a computer creating worlds of my own where the characters could do or be anything I wanted them to be. The characters in my stories would become my friends and as I created them and their world, I would travel with them and experience their thoughts, feelings, hopes, and dreams while discovering my own.
When I started school, I always loved to read and enjoy English classes much more than most of my classmates. I began to write more stories when I had the time and even went to Young Author Conferences to meet young authors like myself and to share stories. When it was time for me to go to college, I chose English as my major and went to Ball State University in Muncie, IN. However, the challenges I faced there due to my physical needs and disability led me to return home to Lafayette, IN after only finishing a semester. After that, I was in and out of college majoring in anything from Psychology to Business and finally Marketing. I enjoyed these classes and struggled to finish college but I knew something wasn’t right. I was always drawn back to writing in some form or another.
After meeting the love of my life in 2008 and now wife, I moved to Cincinnati, Ohio to start a life with her. This is when I realized that I can do anything I wanted and I was truly happy for the first time in a long time. I searched for jobs online that I could do from home. I started writing articles and blogs for people to help them promote their businesses. I still do this today and though it doesn’t make me much money, I love writing and I love helping people. When I found writing again I realized that my true passion was to write stories again like I did when I was young. I self-published a book of poems, Lost in My Head, that I wrote in March of 2010 through wordclay.com.
The inspiration for my next short story, Magical Dreams published in October 2011 both on Amazon as an eBook and through wordclay, comes from my love for fantasy stories combined with my new found knowledge of Paganism and the religion Wicca. I discovered this religion in 2010 after watching something about it on television. I decided I wanted to learn more about it and began reading all I could and joining groups online to learn more. I discovered that I was very interested in this path. My book, Magical Dreams combines what I have learned this far about Wicca and my path within it and also my love for fantasy as well as GLBT issues. I really wanted to create a story with strong female characters discovering who they are and learning how to deal with it. I also wanted my female characters to be faced with GLBT issues because as a lesbian myself, I feel that it is very important that there are plenty of books, movies, and articles out there that really show people that it doesn’t matter who you love and that even if it isn’t everyone’s path, it isn’t wrong. I really hope that my readers will also understand that I wanted to talk about the truth of the Wicca religion from my point of view. I wanted people to see that it is a positive path and can be very inspiring. I hope all these issues come across to my readers as I intended them to.
As of right now, I am planning on writing a sequel to Magical Dreams and have many ideas on where I hope the story will go in the future. I am just waiting for the right inspiration. I also want to write another poetry book and maybe a book solely about GLBT issues in the future.
I am also happily married to my partner and we have fish right now and plan to get a dog in the future. Also, my first niece was just born in September of 2011, so I am having a great time spoiling her!
